TGMC impressed choral directors from across North Carolina at the State Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) with a performance at the UNC-Greensboro School of Music on Saturday September 19, 2009.
TGMC was the first openly gay chorus ever to perform at the conference. TGMC presented selections from the "BraveSouls and Dreamers" cantata, with guest soloist mezzo-soprano Evelyn McCauley.
TGMC Conductor and Artistic Director John-Philip Mullinax described this event as a major success for TGMC. Mullinax noted, "Even in the choral music community, gay men's choruses are often not seen as serious musical organizations. We have to strive especially hard to be recognized artistically. Our performance at ACDA was a pleasant surprise to a lot of folks."
