Triangle Gay Men's ChorusThe Triangle Gay Men's Chorus (TGMC) is happy to welcome singers and non-singers to become members.

Even if you're not a singer, there's still a place for you! Our Support Section consists of our non-singing members who conduct important "behind the scenes" work to make our group successful. For more information about membership in TGMC, please continue reading the frequently asked questions on this page. If you are interested in becoming a member of TGMC, you can send an email to membership@tgmchorus.org.

Frequently-Asked Questions

Yes. All members pay dues. Dues help in part to support our operating expenses.

People can join as members of our Support Section at any time.

Anyone who wishes to sing with the Chorus may join during open rehearsal periods, held during the first few weeks of rehearsals for a given concert. Open rehearsals are held at various times during the year, typically late August, early January, and late March.

The Artistic Director will conduct "vocal interviews" with new singers to determine placement into the appropriate section. This is not a high-pressure audition that new singers need to prepare for.

If you have missed an open rehearsal period, or if you would like more information, please send an email to membership@tgmchorus.org.

The Chorus rehearses every Tuesday evening during our concert season at 6:45-9:15 PM at the Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street, in Downtown Durham. Additional section rehearsals or pre-concert rehearsals at other designated times might be required. These are announced a few weeks in advance. Performing members are expected to spend time practicing the concert music outside of regular rehearsals.

All members (including those who perform) are expected to participate in fundraising events, ticket sales for concerts, and Chorus promotional activities.

Support Section members perform a wide variety of roles to support the mission of the Chorus, such as advertising, public relations, ticket sales, set design, and fundraising.

Members of our Support Section also can contribute in important ways to decisions about how the Chorus operates, and in carrying out those decisions. In particular, Support Section members may serve as TGMC Officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, or Treasurer), members of the TGMC Board of Directors, and on committees.

Music has the ability to touch lives in a way that words alone cannot. Being a part of TGMC means you have the opportunity to touch lives whether you sing or support the Chorus behind the scenes.

Our vision for our performing members is to be Brothers Singing, Declaring Pride, and Touching Lives. Camaraderie among our performing and supporting members (regardless of gender or orientation) develops not only as we rehearse and sing together, but also as we participate together in the work of managing the Chorus, planning our direction, preparing for our concerts, doing the necessary work after our concerts, and socializing outside of our usual Chorus activities.

No. We welcome as members any adults (aged 18 or older) who support our mission and are willing to join a chorus that proudly and openly identifies with the gay community.

Because we are a men's chorus, only males sing in our concerts as performing members.
